![]() Well done to 9 year old Charlie Goodridge on winning the 15th playing of the Stonham Barns Junior Golf Players Championship with a great score of 35 (6 over par) on a cold wet day over the 9 hole course at Stonham in the heart op Suffolk. Charlie, from Bury St Edmunds Golf Club, won by four shots over his playing partner 9 year old Henry Meadows from Fynn Valley Golf Club. This junior golf event has four age categories and well done to the winners who were, Under 15, Layla Farthing (Fynn Valley Golf Club), Under 12 Solomon Westmancott (Stonham Barns Golf Club), Under 10 Charlie Goodridge (Bury St Edmunds Golf Club) and Under 8 Ryan Daley (Stonham Barns Golf Club), The Stonham Junior Players Championship has been played every year since 2001 and has provided some notable winners, some of whom have gone on to represent England. With eight tournaments each year for ages 4-15 Stonham Barns Golf offers juniors in Suffolk the opportunity to play some competitive golf from a young age in a relaxed friendly environment. ![]() The aim of the junior events at Stonham Barns in Suffolk is to give the youngsters a chance to experience competing in friendly junior golf tournaments. Stonham Barns has been running eight junior events every year for the last 15 years and have given thousands of young golfers the chance to develop their golf game. The October event was won by a regular winner at Stonham, Ryan Turnbull, a 13 yr old member of Cretingham Golf Club, with a very good score of 31 (2 over par). Ryan has won many junior events here and will be defending his Stonham Players Championship title next month. In second place was Adam Scott, a 14 year member of the Stonham Junior Academy, who only started playing golf this year. Adam scored a 38, his best score to date which included his first ever birdie on the 8th hole. The Under 10 Age Category was won by 9 year old Charlie Goodridge from Bury St Edmunds Golf Club. Left hander Charlie is an excellent player and he stayed calm after a poor start to score a 39. The Under 8 Age Category was won by 6 year old Imogen Potter with a score of 66. Imogen is a member of the Stonham Barns Junior Academy really loves her golf and has a great attitude. The Stonham Junior events are open to any juniors from ages 4-15. The last event of the year will be the Stonham Junior Players Championship on Sunday 29th November. Alexandra, who plays her golf in Prague and has an 18 handicap, travelled with her parents yesterday and now plans to stay in England for a weeks holiday. She won the Under 12 Age category with a very good score of 36 in her first round at the 9 hole course at Stonham Barns with a round that included three pars and a birdie on the 4th hole. In 2nd place was 11 year old Rio Everitt from Stowmarket Golf Club with a score of 38. The Under 10 Age category was won by Sawyer Osbourn, a 10 year old from Lakenheath Golf Club with the best score of the day, a 33 (4 over par). The Under 8 Age category was won by 6 year old Finlay Brock with an excellent score of 41. It was great to see the girls dominate the Under 12 Age group taking the top four places and well done to all of them. Stonham Barns Golf Centre has been running 8 junior events at their Suffolk Golf Starter Centre every year since 2001 and it gives the juniors the opportunity to experience some completive golf in a fun friendly environment. Henry has been a consistent winner on the Stonham Barns 9 hole golf course over the last year with a fantastic nine wins in ten starts. He has three more years to play in this event and has the chance equal the three wins by Lee Spurling, the 2006, 2007 and 2008 winner. In second place was 11 year old George Whitehall from Ely Golf Club with a score of 74 and in third place were 8 year old Charlie Goodridge from Bury Golf Club and 12 year old Alfie Guy-Pinkney from Ely Golf Club with scores of 75. The age categories were won by George Whitehall for the Under 12’s, Henry Meadows for the Under 10’s and 6 year old Finlay Brock won the Under 8 age category with a great score of 82 helped by a birdie at the third hole. The winners of each category are aiming to compete in the 2014 Grand Final, on Saturday 30th August, at the Brampton Heath Golf Centre, in Northamptonshire. In the Final all players will receive a Grand Finalist certificate and the top three finishers in each boy and girl age group will each receive trophies and an invitation to enter the 2015 US Kids European Championships held in Scotland. In addition the winners of each boy and girl age group will receive an invitation to enter the 2015 US Kids Golf World Championships held in Pinehurst, USA. The event on Sunday at Stonham Barns produced six winners from different age categories. Well done to these winners, Boys 6-7 Charlie Goodridge, Boys 8-9 Henry Meadows, Boys 10-11 Joshua Hulyer, Boys 12-13 George Fricker, Girls 10-11 Rio Everitt and Girls 12-13 Layla Farthing. This was Ryan's 2nd win in three years, having won in a play off in 2012. His score was a 65 was very good in the breezy conditions and was good enough to win by a fantastic margin of 16 shots. After a first 9 nine of 33 he birdied the 10th hole on his way to a back nine of 32. The Under 10 Age Category was won by Rio Everitt, a 10 year member of Stowmarket Golf Club. Rio, who was one of three girls playing, has been a regular competitor at Stonham over the years. The Under 8 Age category was won by Henry Meadows, an 8 year old from Fynn Valley Golf Club, who scored an 80, which was in addition the second best score on the day. There were two entries in the Under 6 Age Category which was won by Finlay Brock, a 5 year old member of Ufford Park Golf Club with 6 year old Ryan Daley from Stonham Barns playing his first junior event in 2nd place. This junior event in its 15th year has always attracted juniors from all over the region and even been featured on a Channel 4 TV programme. This year juniors from 13 different Suffolk Golf Clubs were playing and it was great to see a regular supporter of these events over the years come away with the Trophy for a second time. His score of 30 (one over par) was fantastic in the cold conditions and included two birdies and a marvellous up and down from 40 yards on the 9th hole for a par 3. Ben, a 19 handicap junior at Stowmarket Golf Club, has come through the Suffolk Junior Development Squad Programme and is coached by Tony Dobson at Stonham Barns. This was the last of eight events this year for juniors from 5-14 years old. There was a good turnout considering the weather with juniors from 10 different clubs including players from Norfolk and Cambridge. In the Age categories the Under 12’s was won by Ryan Turnbull (36), the Under 10’s was won by 10 year old Mary Cuthbert from Thorpness (37) and the Under 8’s was won by 7 year old Henry Meadows from Fynn Valley Golf Club. The organizer of the event PGA Professional Tony Dobson said “I would like to thanks all the juniors that made the effort to play in this event and all the juniors that have supported the events this year.” He added “I would also like to thank Mike Stevenson, the Chairman of Suffolk Junior Golf, for coming along to support the event and presenting the prizes.” Stonham Barns have been running Junior Tournaments since 2001 and currently run 8 events through the year for youngsters to experience playing in Junior Golf Tournaments in a friendly relaxed environment. All juniors from 4 to 15 years old (boys and girls) are welcome to play whatever their standard or ability. The events are usually the last Sunday of each month from April to November and feature the Stonham U12 Junior Flag Tournament in May, the East Anglian Under 12 Junior Golf Championship in June and the Stonham Barns Players Championship in November. This was James's third win this year at Stonham Barns and his consistant play has helped him reduce his handicap to 16. In 2nd place was a first time player in the junior tournaments was Harry Fawkner, a 13 year old from Stonham Barns. Thankfully the day stayed dry but the winds were starting to pick up as this was the day before the big storm which caused tremendous damage and left many thousands without electricity. Read more... ![]() Sam Osbourn, a 14 year old, originally from the USA and now living near Cambridge won the September Junior Tournament at Stonham Barns with an excellent score of 34 (5 over par). In 2nd place was regular at Stonham, James Cook from Thorpness Golf Club with a score of 36 (7 over par). On a bright autumn day scoring was made difficult by the fresh breeze but the juniors still managed some excellent golf. In the Age categories the Under 12’s was won by 12 year old Megan Aves from Stonham Barns. The Under 10 Age Group was won by another Stonham Barns player, Jack Harris, a 9 year old in only his second junior tournament. The Under 8’s was won by 8 year old Sawyer Osbourn, the brother of Sam Osbourn, the overall winner. Sawyer had an excellent score of 36 which was only beaten by his brother’s score. There are eight junior events every year at Stonham Barns on their short 9 hole golf course. Usually they are held on the last Sunday of each month from April to November.
