GOLF OFFERS FRESH AIR & EXERCISE

19/3/2020

Comments

This is the message from Golf's Governing Bodies following the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus:
"The current restrictions do not prevent golf competitions or casual games taking place, but all golfers should follow some simple steps to maintain the low risk of infection. By following positive but sensible set of guidelines which we can all adhere to and then communicating those to golfers, we can continue to enjoy the sport in the months to come."

1. Do Not Shake Hands
It's a normal etiquette after a game but avoid shaking hands as this is one of the easiest ways for the virus to spread

2. Leave the Flag In
Under the new golf rules this is allowed now in normal play. Take care not to touch the flag or the hole when removing the ball

3. Keep Your Distance
The government guidance is to keep a safe distance of 2 metres between players at all times.

4. Only Use Your Own Equipment
Do not share or touch any of your playing partners equipment such as clubs, golf balls, rangefinders, etc.

Here at Stonham Barns Golf Park we are open as normal and all our facilities are available everyday.
Open 9.00am - 8.00pm
(Sat/Sun Close 6pm - unless booked in advance)

Our priority continues to be the well-being of our customers and employees and we would like to reassure customers that we are taking all necessary steps to follow the guidance given by the government at this time.

We are working to the highest standard of hygiene and all equipment is cleaned with anti-bacterial cleaner before and after each customer. Hand sanitiser is provided for everyone to us.
We will of course update our activities and policies in line with any new government guidance.

Please do contact us if you have any concerns or questions

Robin Barton captured the 2019 Suffolk Open Footgolf Trophy with a marvellous score of 49 (9 under par).  This was the same winning score as last year and was good enough to win by one from Dan Ferretti and Roman Barton who both scored 50 (8 under par). In 4th place was last year winner Darren Wheat who put up a good defence of his title.

Robin is a regular player on the ECFGT Tour and is from Cambridge FootGolf Club. He attends all the events with his two sons, Roman and Milo. Roman, who is 13, won the Suffolk Open Junior Trophy and finished 2nd in the overall event.

This is the 4th year that Stonham Barns Footgolf have hosted the Suffolk Open and with a turn out of just under 60 players the event was well supported.

The Eastern Counties Footgolf Tour (ECFGT) is a not for profit organisation that organises footgolf events for all skill levels to promote the game of footgolf in the Eastern Region. For a list of all the events this year go to their Facebook page @ECFootgolfTour.

Watch the Stonham Barns Golf Park's story of the opening of our Smugglers Bay Adventure Golf as reported by the local media, East Anglian Daily Times.

The new pirate-themed adventure golf course presents a fun exciting challenge for all ages, which will offer participants the chance to dodge the volcano, navigate around the water falls, go inside the treasure cave and try to avoid the shipwrecks.

Tony Dobson, the owner of the Golf Park, said: “I have been here at Stonham Barns for 20 years and it’s always been my dream to build this kind of golfing facility where families and children can enjoy different types of golf in a fun, friendly environment. Golf is such a great game and I have always done what I can to encourage more people into the game. The Smugglers Bay adventure golf, together with the other seven golfing facilities, have all received a really positive reaction from customers and hopefully we have been able to make golf more enjoyable and accessible to more people.”

The Stonham Junior Players Championship in the last of eight tournaments each year and only players that have played in at least one event are invited to play. This junior tournament was first played at Stonham Barns in 2001 and has been played every year since. Over 500 juniors have played in the event over the years with some previous winners going on to become county players and even England internationals. In addition to rewarding the winners one of the main aims of these events is to encourage players of all standards to come along, have fun and enjoy playing some competitive golf.
This year the event was played using Big HOLE Golf which uses larger 8 inch golf holes. This concept is now becoming popular all over the world as a way of getting increased participation into golf – Quicker Rounds - Makes Golf Fun - Have Less Putts. Stonham Barns was the first course in the UK to convert to Big Hole Golf and the feedback from all the players has been great.
