Footgolfer Pele Heydon dominated the first footgolf tournament of the year at Stonham Barns Footgolf. With 7 birdies and an eagle of the 2,640 course he achieved a nine under par score of 49. Pele was delighted with his win and said he hopes to play in more of the Stonham Barns tournaments as well as some regional and national events
 
In 2nd place was Daren Wheat with a score of 52 (-6 under par) and one shot further back was Ian Plumb who scored a 53 (-5 under par). The junior prize was won by 13 year old Bailey Rosier who scored an impressive 58 (level par) with Charlie Tranter in second with a score of 61 (+3 over par). Charlie’s score was helped by an amazing hole in one on his 10th hole.

This event was the first of eight monthly tournaments at the Stonham Barns Footgolf Course. These tournaments are aimed to be fun as well as competitive and are open to anyone no matter what experience they have. There are prizes for men, ladies and juniors but it’s also important to come along and have a game with friends or family in a relaxed environment.

Footgolf has really taken off in the UK and it’s now the fastest growing sport in the country with over 200 clubs now open for footgolf.  The Suffolk footgolf course at Stonham Barns was one of the first to open in 2013 and they have been amazed by the popularity of the sport and last year had over 5,000 people playing footgolf around the course including a number of past Ipswich Town stars, John Wark, Russell Osman and Kieron Dyer who all really enjoyed their games.
 
About FootGolf
FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf. The game is played with a regulation #5 football at a golf course facility on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups.  The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf. FootGolf as a game is played throughout the world in many different forms, but as a sport it is regulated by the Federation for International FootGolf (FIFG) and by UK Footgolf (UKFG) in the UK.

David Harper from Essex claimed the 2016 Stonham FootGolf Players Championship in style with a 51, 7 under par. After 9 holes Pele Hayden was leading by two shots but a 5 under par back nine secured the title for David.

There was a tie for 2nd place between Darren Wheat and Pele Hayden with scores of 53 (5 under par). However as Darren has the better back nine, 6 under par 23, he took 2nd place and Pele was 3rd.

Stonham Barns Footgolf organises at least six footgolf events each year including the Suffolk Open Footgolf Championship. These events are open to everyone and aim to give players a taste of competitive footgolf and some players go on to play in regional and national footgolf tournaments.

Footgolf has become the fastest growing sport in the UK and there are now over 200 courses. It’s a game everyone can play and is great fun and an ideal game for groups, corporate events, teams and families. The course at Stonham Barns in Suffolk was one of the first courses in the UK when it opened in 2014 and now it has thousands of footgolf players visit the course each year. Stonham Barns Golf have announced their Footgolf Tournament schedule for 2016. Following on from the success of their eight UK Footgolf Ranking Tournaments last year, which included the Suffolk Open FootGolf Championship, they have announced another eight event for this year. 
The first event of the year will be held on Sunday 20th March. Play will be over 18 holes and everyone is welcome to come along and play, mens, ladies, families and juniors. Entry for all events will be £10.
In addition these footgolf competitions will form part of the Stonham Suffolk Ranking Table and all scores from players will be listed through the year. At the end of the season the leaders from each category will receive prizes and a trophy. Here are the dates of this year's tournaments:

Stonham Barns Footgolf Tournaments 2016

Footgolf has really taken off at Stonham Barns and the course is now open every day. Last year over 5,000 players have played this new exiting sport at Stonham Barns and they are now taking bookings for individuals, groups, staff outing and parties. Well done to Mark Channell on winning the first Stonham Footgolf Players Championship with a great score of 51 (7 under par). Mark, who is the Diss Town Youth FC Secretary, brought down a group of boys from the club and showed them how it was done. There were four players on 54 (4 under par), Chris Tranter, Darren Wheat, Dan Ferretti (UK Footgolf) and Ian Heydon. Darren and Ian are ranked in the UK’s top 50 players. 

The junior event was dominated by the Diss Town Youth FC boys who took eight out of the top ten places. Well done to Daniel Whyman who scored a 65 and won on count back from Jamie Channell who also scored a 65. It was great to see so many juniors playing in this event (15 played) and well done to the youngsters from Ipswich Exiles who were all under 13.

We had two holes in one on the day. Both were on the 10th hole with one from Craig Bolger and the other from junior, Chris Disney.

Kevin Ward from Colchester achieved three UK Ranking Footgolf wins in a row at the Stonham Barns Footgolf Course. With the help of a hole in one on the 105 yard 18th hole Kevin achieved his best score , a 9 under par 49. His three wins at Stonham Barns included the Suffolk Footgolf Open which he won in June and the July FootGolf Event.

Regulars at Stonham, Chris Tranter and Darren Wheat, finished 2nd and 3rd with excellent scores of 54 and 55 respectively.

Stonham Barns FootGolf hosts eight UK Ranking events each year and the last event of 2015, The Stonham FootGolf Players Championship will be held on Sunday 11th October. The first Suffolk Open FootGolf Championship Stonham Barns was won by Kevin Ward with a great score of 53 (-5 under par). In a round that included seven twos he achieved his best ever score around the Stonham Course. Kevin from Colchester is a regular at Stonham Barns having played in most of the UK Ranking events.

In second place was Dan McLaughlin who also scored 53 and just lost out on count back. There were 4 players on 54, Darren Wheat, Chris Tranter, Liam Osborne and Ben Garnham.

There were three holes in hole on the day. Amazingly Lewis Warnes achieved the first ever two holes in one in a round. He holed in one on the 2nd and the 16th holes. The third hole in one was achieved by Matt Prescott on the 7th hole.

Over 60 footgolfers competed in The Suffolk Open FootGolf Championship which was played over 18 holes medal play around the scenic Stonham Barns FootGolf Course with the winner receiving the Scarlett Brown Trophy. 

Footgolf has really taken off now in the UK and now there are over 120 footgolf courses (100 new courses over the last year) with many more opening soon. Footgolfer Pele Heydon achieved probably one of the best rounds ever played at footgolf.  His round of 46 was 12 under par and smashed his previous record of 52 around the Stonham Barns FootGolf Course. His amazing round consisted of 12 birdies and 6 pars with matching front and back nine scores of 23.

This gave him his second win this year at Stonham Barns UK Ranking Footgolf Tournament. In 2nd place was his father Ian Heydon who also achieved his best round ever, a 10 under par, 48. Amazing scoring!

This popular event attracted over 60 players from all over the region which included 52 men, 2 ladies and 8 juniors. FootGolf is really taking off as a sport and there are now over 120 footgolf courses in the UK. 

The next UK FootGolf tournament at Stonham Barns is the first playing of the Suffolk FootGolf Open. This event is open to everyone and the winner will receive the Scarlett Brown Trophy and become the Suffolk FootGolf Champion.
